Government at all levels and road
contractors have been charged to incorporate the plights of the physically
challenged persons in the country whenever they embark on road construction
projects.
This is even as the Federal Road
Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra State Command organized sent-forth party to
its immediate past boss, Mr. Hyginus Omeje who had been transferred to pilot
the affairs of Lagos State FRSC Sector Command. The new sector command is Mr Sunday Ajayi.
Speaking at the occasion, a media
practitioner, Ms Ukachukwu Chukwura who spoke on behalf of the press, explained
that the destitute passersby ought to be carved-out at the both federal and
states roads with a view to speeding up the free flow of traffic as well as to
plummeting auto crashes on the highways.
According to her, the routes should
be modeled to accommodate their myriads of transportation system such as
wheelchairs, motorbikes among others, and permissible to the visual impaired
(the blinds) who see and walk through the aid of sticks and legs.
She further appealed to the FRSC to
intensify efforts towards ensuring that commuters and motorcyclists abide by
traffic laws especially when they come across disables struggling to cross
their ways so as to avoid adding salt to injury.
However, Ms Chukwura praised
Mr.Omeje on his giant strides in safeguarding lives and properties on the
highways throughout his tenure as the state Sector Commander, even as she
pledged that the media would continue to partner with the FRSC in sensitizing
the citizenry on the needs to shun traffic related offences.
Earlier speaking, the out-gone FRSC
Anambra State Sector Command, Hyginus Omeje, while recalling that it was
through the public enlightenment campaign via the media that the command was
able to penetrate to the nooks and crannies of Anambra state, extolled his
colleagues for been supportive and admonished them to maintain the kind gesture
now another man, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, is at the helm of affairs, in order to
record huge success more than before.
While taking his oath of office, the
new Sector Commander, Sunday Ajayi called for a collaborative effort with all,
even as he vowed that the command would leave no stone unturned in safeguarding
Nigerians.
On his part, Barr. Ben Osaka, the
State Coordinator of Special Marshals noted that they would never relent in
supporting FRSC to move the state and Nigerians forward.
The command used the medium to
hand-over souvenirs of new plate numbers to the General Manager of Silverbird
Television, NTA and G.U.O Transport Company, Awka.
