Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that Anambra State
Governor Chief Willie Obiano has called for more rights and privileges for
non-indigenes in their states of residence across country to give them a sense
of belonging and further strengthen bond among Nigerians irrespective of tribe
and religion.
Governor Obiano was speaking during a dinner at the
Governor’s Lodge, organized for delegates to the annual conference of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) held in Awka.
The Governor who received an award as Grand Patron of the
Institute at the occasion called for “non-indigenes to be encouraged to
participate in activities of the host State including vying for political
offices to encourage them to accept their place of abode as their hope.”
According to Obiano, “Nigerians should promote areas of
unity and understanding for a new national consciousness to enable the country
harness effectively the strength in human and material resources.”
He commended members of the Institute for their various
contributions towards nation building and urged them to uphold their motor of
accuracy and integrity assuring them that the State Government would continue
to give them all necessary support.
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Ifeatu
Onyejeme observed that papers presented at the conference were in line with
principles of the pillars of development of Governor Willie Obiano. Mr.
Onyejeme further said that promoting Small Scale and Medium Enterprises would
boost the economy and create employment opportunities.
Earlier, the President of the Institute, Mr. Chidi Ajaegbu
said that Anambra has moved from a pariah State to become a reference point and
pace-setter in the country. Mr Ajaegbu noted that the remarkable achievement
recorded by the Governor Obiano within a short time was a testimonial of his
knowledge and wealth of experience in administration as well as commitment
transform the State.
