In
his bid to ensure that the spread of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) is
prevented, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Dr.
Paulinus Ezeokafor has announced that the traditional sign of peace observation
during the celebration of the Holy Mass which involve shaking of hands and
embracing one another can no longer be taken as usual rather it will be
observed by the congregation waving at each other during the ceremony.
Bishop
Ezeokafor who made the announcement at St. Dominic’s Catholic Parish, Mbaukwu,
Awka South Council Area of Anambra State also said the reception of Holy
Communion which the officiating priest usually have to dip the communion into
the mouth of the recipient can now be taken by the priest slipping the body of
Christ into the crossed hands of the receiver with the receiver’s right palm
placed on top of his left palm.
He
enjoined the diocesan parish priests; religious to adhere strictly to the
directive and ensure that their parishioners conform to the new order and as
well watch them carry it out for the greater good of all and sundry.
The
man of God, who took his time to demonstrate to the priests, religious and
congregation how to carry out the function, commended the federal government
for their quick response in preventing the virus from further spread adding
that the Church is more than ready to partner with the Local, State and Federal
Government in the fight against Ebola.
