, Prof Godwin Onu . There may be a snowball of issues should their resolution

The Rector,
Federal
Polytechnic,
Oko
Sir,
RESOLUTION OF THE CONGRESS OF THE ACADEMIC
STAFF UNION OF POLYTECHNICS, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, OKO CHAPTER
Preamble:
The Academic Staff
Union of Polytechnics, Federal Polytechnic, Oko Chapter met on Tuesday August
12, 2014.
Highlights of the
issues are:
1. Non
payment of one month outstanding salary arrears.
2. Issuance
of query to the Publicity Secretary of ASUP.
3. Suspension
of Nwankwo Chukwudi of Urban and Regional Planning.
4. Suspension
of Nwanmuo Ike C. of Department of Business Administration and Management.
5. Non-release
of check-off dues of ASUP.
Resolution:
After
extensive deliberations, congress reached and adopted that:
1. The
outstanding salary arrears owed staff be paid and noted that two neighbouring
Federal Polytechnics have all fully paid their workers. The meeting regretted
that the continued delay in payment of the remaining arrears is inconsistent
with the spirit of the suspension of the long strike and is causing untold
hardships to teeming members and their families.
2.
The query issued the Publicity Secretary of
ASUP, Mr. Okon, I.F. is withdrawn. Congress bemoaned the situation where an
officer of the union acting with mandate of the union is issued a query for
“circulation of Bulk SMS with intent to cause havoc”. Congress-in-session regretted
that the query was unnecessary and is tantamount to a query to ASUP Federal
Polytechnic, Oko Chapter.
3.
The suspension of Nwankwo Chukwudi is
withdrawn in view of the circumstances leading to his suspension. Congress seriously
observed a disconnect between the query and the incident of query. Congress
observed that Mr. Nwankwo has not committed an offence to be an indigene of the
host community and has in his response to query proved no relationship between
him and the Umuada Oko he was alleged to have led during a demonstration.
4.
The suspension of Mr. Nwanmuo Ike is
withdrawn. Congress also seriously observed a disconnect between the query and
the incident of query. Congress observed that Mr. Nwankwo has not committed an
offence to be an indigene of the host community. Congress observed the critical
position of Mr. Nwanmuo as the President General of Oko People’s Union and
maintains that management should divorce his official functions as a staff from
his traditional functions bestowed on him by his land. Congress observed that
Oko community is a critical host-community-stake holder and affirmed that no
meaningful development can thrive without a symbiotic relationship between the
institution and the community.
5.
The arrears of check-off dues of ASUP
Federal Polytechnic, Oko Chapter are released to the Oko Micro Finance Bank Ltd.
Congress observes that the delay in the release of check off dues to the
account of the chapter is counter productive and is hindering the effective
operations of the union as a corporate entity.
Based on
the foregoing sir, congress resolved that management addresses all the above
issues expeditiously. In view of the seriousness of these matters and the
urgency they deserve, congress resolves that all the matters be addressed
within two days from August 13, 2014. Congress urged management to resolve all
the issues to avoid immediate further labour steps that might affect industrial
harmony and academic activities at the expiration of the two-day ultimatum.
Accept sir, the high regards and assurances of
ASUP.
