Enugu State House of Assembly,
Thursday, confirmed the presiding Bishop of the Christ Ascension Church, Enugu,
Rev. Raphael Ifeanyi Nwoye as the new Deputy Governor for the state.
Until his nomination and clearance,
Nwoye was the Bishop in charge of Christ Ascension Church, Ugwuaji, Enugu and a member of Enugu State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Bishop Nwoye is from Ishiogbo Nara
in Nkanu East local government area of the state as the ousted Deputy Governor,
Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi.
He served as Deputy Chairman of
Nkanu East council, Caretaker Committee chairman of the same council and also
as Commissioner for Environment under Governor Chimaroke Nnamani
administration.
Gov. Sullivan Chime forwarded a
letter to the State Assembly notifying it of the appointment of Nwoye as
replacement for Onyebuchi, who was impeached on Tuesday.
Speaker of the House, Mr. Eugene Odo
at the sitting of the Assembly, read the Governor’s letter on the floor of the
House after a plenary session that had earlier deliberated on the bill for the
Control of Nomadic Cattle Rearing in Enugu State and Other Matters Related
Thereto, 2014 which second reading was stepped down last Tuesday.
The Speaker told the House that the
state would not operate in a vacuum without having a deputy Governor since the
former deputy had been impeached, saying that nature abhorred vacuum.
The House went on recess for some
minutes and reconvened for the screening and confirmation of the nominee which
was speedily done.
Before clearing the deputy governor
designate, Leader of the House,Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye, said that Rev.
Nwoye had already been in government and was not somebody whose credentials
would be questioned by the House, hence, he should be cleared immediately.
John Anichukwu, member representing
Nkanu East Constituency where Nwoye hails from, urged the House to ask the new
deputy governor to take a bow since he was a known figure who has held and is
still holding government
positions till date.

Shortly after the deputy governor
designate took a bow, the House quickly screened, confirmed and cleared him for
the position.
