The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has condemned the action of Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi, and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in attempting to reverse the impeachment on the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chukwuma Nwazunku.

The APGA National Publicity Secretary, Okwukwe Ibiam, in a press release made available to odogwuemekaodogwu.com, said the order of the Ebonyi State governor and the state PDP hierarchy against the impeachment is a total disrespect for the rule of law and the democratic processes on which Nigeria is founded.
The state governor had, after a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of the PDP, told newsmen that the said impeachment of Nwazunku was null and void following discoveries by the state government and the PDP that there was no impeachment.
Ibiam alleged that the actions of the governor and the PDP were rather high handed, tyrannical and unconstitutional, noting that the governor and the PDP hierarchy must review their Nigerian Constitution. “They do not have any legislative powers. They are not and cannot be the Ebonyi State legislature.
“We at APGA are of the opinion that it is dictatorial and a total rape of democracy when supposedly independent arms of government, in this case, the legislature, are summarily stripped of their independence by a very high handed executive in order to sustain a very corrupt, incompetent legislative status quo and its epitome, Mr Chukwuma Nwazunku”, the document stated.
“The executive arm of the Ebonyi State Government cannot afford to have its hand caught meddling in the affairs of another independent arm of government. Their action is totally against the spirit of the separation of powers.
“While the arms of government must work amicably, they must find a way to respect the independent decisions taken individually, or have them become token. In this regard, the government must either officially veto this act of the House of Assembly, if the constitution demands their assent to the Impeachment legislation, or execute it. It is the Law.
