It was tragic
in Umusieme village in Nkpor and Ikenga village, Ogidi, both in Idemili
North Local Government Area of Anambra State when no fewer than 40 houses were
burnt by a mob, following a clash between the two communities,odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com
reports.
At the end no were than 10 persons sustained bullet
wounds, following gunshots in the area even as allegations and counter
allegations on what caused the mayhem was not certain as at press time.
Some said it was induced by the decision of Ikenga
Ogidi community to effect a Supreme Court judgment, which granted
the community a portion of land that had been in dispute between
Ikenga Ogidi and Umusioeme Nkpor.
Another source said that Umusiome community had sold
a large portion of the land in question to individuals and groups, thereby
complicating matters even as the speculators and their buyers joined forces
with the Umusiome community to resist the Ikenga villagers from taking over the
land.
Their action it was believed was because of the huge
investment on the land and buildings there.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com informs that several
buildings had been burnt, while many of the residents had vacated the area
for fear of being attacked.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Ogidi Division, Mr. Isa Abubakar, confirmed the incident, and said the land dispute had been a major issue in the area but assured his men had been deployed in the area in dispute to maintain peace even as he appealed to the warring groups to give peace a chance,.
