reports that the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),
Chief Victor Umeh, yesterday said the party knows the secret of winning Imo
State, declaring that the party will remove Govermor Rochas Okorocha in 2015.
Speaking during the inauguration of
the state executive in Abuja, Umeh stated that APGA had since 2003 been winning
the governorship of the state but was robbed on some of the occasions.
He said: “We have been winning Imo
in the past elections. The people of Imo love APGA and have been showing that
love by voting for us. Unfortunately, some people have been stealing our
mandate. We are confident that with Prof. Jega conducting good elections in the
country, we will defeat Okorocha in 2015. We will form the government in Imo
State in 2015.”
The APGA chairman charged the state
executive, led by Mr. Peter Ezeobi, a lawyer, to embark on membership mobilisation
to help enlarge the structure of the party in the state.
Insisting that Okorocha did not pose
any threat to APGA, Umeh stated that the same members of the party, who elected
the governor in 2011 and who felt betrayed by his defection to the All
Progressives Congress (APC), would vote him out in the next election .
He said: “We have all it takes to
wrest power from Okorocha. He got there on our platform, our members are still
intact and are ready to reclaim their mandate. They feel betrayed and will
show that in 2015.”
He tasked the 16-member state
executive to work hard to increase the visibility and acceptability of the
party in every nook and cranny of the state. To achieve this, the APGA boss
advised the party’s leadership in the state not to wait for people to come to
them but, instead, it should embark on intensive membership drive.
He said the executive must be fair
to every member, warn ing against arrogance and peddling of influence.
According to him, APGA would be
embraced by every Imo resident if it provided a level playing ground for
all members and aspirants.
In his address, Ezeobi promised to
work hard to reposition the party in the state. He explained that most members
of the executive resolved not to move to APC with Okorocha because they
believed in the manifesto and philosophy of the party.
Members of the new executive
include Dr. David Iwuagwu (vice chairman), Victor Chidi Diala
(secretary), Chief Ben Ogbuehi (vice chairman Okigwe), Eugene Obi (vice
chairman Orlu), Chima Nwosu (vice chairman Owerri).
