odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that the
Town Union election of Ugbene community in Awka North Local Government Area Of
Anambra state has deepened following the death of a 22 year old Ifeanyi Udenwa and
another yet to be identified youth as at press time while scores sustained various degrees
of injuries in a fresh attack.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com investigation revealed that the house of the President General, Chief Albert Ibeh was razed, Vigilante operative’s vehicle, vandalised including other valuables estimated at N5 million.
The vandals were alleged to have looted some houses as well.
When Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com visited the community, many houses and stalls were under lock and key, though, the crew spotted irate youths and few elders wielding some dangerous weapons such as locally made rifle, axe and machetes.
odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that the town Union election held on 24th May, 2014 that produced Chief Albert Ibeh as the president General was rejected by some sections of the community operating under the umbrella of Ugbene Great Ambassadors Club of Nigeria.
They alleged that the election was marred with irregularities as security agencies were used to molest and intimidate many voters, loyal to one Barr. Emeka Ezu who contested with Chief Albert Ibeh.
Some Government officials from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs were also indicted for aiding and abetting the alleged rigging, an allegation that Mr. Henry Nwasike from the Ministry debunked.
On that note, the National Chairman and secretary of the Great Ambassadors Club, Chief Aaron Onwelukwue and Barr. Joseph Obiakor respectively petitioned Anambra Governor, Chief Willie Obianor, calling for outright cancellation of the election which they argued did not reflect the wishes of the people.
Fresh trouble started when the vigilante operatives from the community arrested one Ifeany Udenwa and handed him over to police. He was said to have been detained for 4 days at Achalla Divisional Police headquarters before his death, two days later at Ebenebe hospital.
Chief Aaron Onwelukwue and other concerned citizens said the Vigilante operatives beat the poor boy to coma before handing him over to police simply because he is loyal to Barr. Emeka Ezu.
The President General elect, Chief Albert Ibeh said the boy died after a surgical operation at Ebenebe hospital.
Chief Ibe whose house was razed blamed the crisis on Aaron Onwelukwue, Fabioan Ekweazor, the traditional Prime Minister, Chief Joseph Offor among others, wondering why his kinsmen should resort to unleashing mayhem in the peace loving community rather than accepting defeat.
“Our problem in Ugbene community is manmade. Since I emerged winner of May 24th Town Union election, this people swore to make the community ungovernable for me. Yesterday, they instigated youths that burnt down my house and threatened to kill me. The boys vandalised the security vehicles and looted some stalls. The money they made away in some houses and properties vandalised is estimated at N5 million to say the least but we have reported the matter to the appropriate quarter” he vented.
An elder statesman, who claim to be the new traditional prime minister of the town, Chief Samuel Nnalue blamed the crisis on the outcome of the election, saying that the youths have been boasting that blood will spill since Chief Ibe was given certificate of return as the president General of the town.
According to him, they invaded the community and ransacked the house of vigilante operative chairman, Mr. Cornelius Enemmuo and other vigilante members including, Festus Obodoechie, Titus Ibeh and Monday Ejimene, even as he called on the government to intervene to forestall future occurrences.
When contacted, Chief Aaron Onwelukwue denied his involvement in the mayhem as alleged but rather accused Vigilante Groups and the President General, Chief Albert Ibeh for the untimely death of Ifeanyi Udenwa adding that he will head to court over the matter.
“They are linking me to the case for no just cause. With my position as the former councillor of the town, the former Vice president of the Town Union and a High Chief in Igwe’s cabinet, I don’t think I can venture into such crime as they alleged. Let it be on record that the death of Ifeanyi who they felt is in our camp is the cause of crisis in the town. ”
On the parallel traditional prime minister, Onwelukwue said Chief Albert Ibe and his cohorts installed Igwe’s cousin, Chief Nnalue as a traditional prime minister.
