Odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com brings you elombah.com story on how Sir Emeka Offor foundation is sponsoring Anambra members of wheel chair and Amputee Association to London ----Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Buckinghamshire England for sports . Read
On the 1st of August, Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Buckinghamshire England will explode with euphoric and colourful celebration marking the opening ceremony for the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) Junior Games.
Nigerian contingent will be hoisting green white green at the game courtesy of Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) headed by a philanthropist, amiable and generous renowned businessman who is also the first Rotary International Ambassador in sub-Saharan Africa.
Presenting sponsorship
check to a group of Nigerian Paralympians, a people living with disability at
Chrome Group Headquarters in Abuja, Sir Emeka Offor had said, “Our Foundation
is interested in supporting good projects especially when it has to do with
polio survivors and disabled people. We’ll do whatever we can to help you
because your success will encourage other survivors to develop confidence in
themselves and come to the understanding that there is ability in disability.”
This gesture has indeed emboldened the courage of Nigerian contingent and has
given them sense of belonging and a chance to hoist Nigerian flag and even
write our country’s name in gold at the end of the event.
The game which
will involve seven areas of competition like Archery, Athletics, Power lifting,
Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Fencing will have Nigeria’s
David Ombugudu vying for Table Tennis gold while Emmanuel Godwin will
participate in weightlifting and both of them are under 23 Gold Medalists and
polio survivors who are living testimonies that there is ability in disability.
SEOF’s sponsorship for Nigerian contingent has given many of the participants
the opportunity to be part of this generational game which will give them the
onus of carrying Nigerian flag as we cheer them to victory. Mr. Monday
Emoghavwe a weight lifter and the President Paralympics Committee of Nigeria in
his acceptance speech said “I thank Sir Emeka Offor Foundation for championing
the cause of making people living with disability happy. Since I joined the
Paralympics Committee, I have not seen or heard of any philanthropist or
organization supporting persons with disability the way you are." In the
same vain, Engr. Onwuamaegbu followed by saying, “In supporting us, Sir Emeka
Offor has become one of the leading independent supporters of People with
Disability (PWD) in Nigeria.” The spirit of people with disability was however
uplifted by SEOF’s gesture and they promised to do Nigeria proud.
SEOF has donated
over $3.2 million dollars to Rotary International in their effort towards
elimination of polio globally. This has yielded results with only five cases
reported in Nigeria so far in 2014 as opposed to 53 cases at the same time last
year. At Sir Emeka Offor Foundation we are not a single purpose foundation but
a multi-purpose foundation that has, and is still impacting lives positively.
Sponsoring Nigerian contingent to IWAS game is another feather on the
foundation’s cap. The executive and members of People with Disability (PWD) are
already enveloped with triumphant and invincible conviction through SEOF”s
largesse and support especially in a country where PWD are not put into special
consideration.
