reports that Professional Prostitutes under the aegis of Professional
Prostitutes Association of Nigeria (PPAN), Onitsha branch led by Miss Nkechi
Onyedinma today threatened to withdraw their services from their male clients
if the incessant house rent charged by brothel owners are not reduced
significantly.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.com
reports that it was a serious issue as the association is protesting the high
rent charged per apartment in most brothels in Onitsha which ranges between Six
thousand naira (N6,000) and Seven thousand naira (N7,000) per month while
in most brothels prostitutes are charged daily depending on the location of
such brothels and availability of customers a day.
It was dramatic because
people were taken aback by the effrontery in making their feelings known to
newsmen in Onitsha, the chairman of Professional Prostitutes Association of
Nigeria (PPAN), Onitsha branch, Miss Nkechi Onyedinma narrated the woes faced
by her colleagues in their various areas of “business”, stating that the
members would soon meet to deliberate on the challenges facing them.
She threatened that
failure of various landlords of brothels to reduce the high rent charged her
members would result to utmost withdrawal of their services from such places,
adding that such a last resort would bring an untold hardship to their men
clients and society in general as their would be escalated incidences of rape
of all kinds.
She, however, appealed
to the state government and all stakeholders to wade into the matter as the
society would suffer more if their services are eventually withdrawn.
Miss Onyedinma made
instances of India and Pakistan where incidences of rape are in the increase
because of Sharia Law which prohibits prostitution in the case of Pakistan.
She stated that even in
Nigeria a lot of rape cases are not easily resolved while others are committed
unnoticed.
She explained that their
profession was a noble one as most respectable men in the society also
patronise them. She, however, lamented that student prostitutes who operate
from their parents’ homes and campuses were “spoiling business for them”.
“We are not happy that
younger girls who are mostly students in various higher institutions around and
operate either from the campus or their parents’ homes are spoiling business
for us”, she lamented.
