Oko Polytechnic Demands Return Of Students As Polytechnic Staff School Owed 2 Months Arrears Of Salary
Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that
the Members of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and the
Rector today visited the Polytechnic Staff School to tackle their problems
headlong.
Although the Rector stayed briefly by dashing out for other engagements,
the Governing Council members stayed long examining their complaints and their
poor working condition with a promise to turn things around for them. The Rector is also in the spirit and the staff would be better for it.
But there were fears of witch-hunting
scheming among the staff but odogwuemekaodogwu.com authoritatively revealed
that the Council and the Rector are disposed in paying the arrears of salary
and salary shortchange exclusively reported by odogwuemekaodogeu.com and later
part of the report appeared in The Sun Newspapers with the name of The Nation Reporter.
The Nation Reporter was sacked for alleged moonlighting based on petition from Federal Polytechnic Oko PRO , one Obini Onuchukwu that he was bias against them in Sun and reported in The Sun while working for The Nation even with about 30 minutes reaction reflected in the report.
But as at today the staff
Polytechnic school is a ghost of itself and the staffers are suffering and
deprived . They are owed two months’ salary arrears , months of May and June
but they paid themselves from the school fees of the students for the month of
April. The Polytechnic paid them last March 2014.
They were already owed months
of arrears yet unpaid and years of shortchange in salaries which the Governing
council presupposedly has reached a consensus with the Rector to tackle once
and for good.
Everybody is expecting that the chagrin of the staff of the Polytechnic Staff school would end soon and Prof Onu and Governing Council receive thumps up from students and staff.
Meanwhile ,Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that
students from Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, are preparing to go back
to school based on information circulating on the social media and sent to
their phones reportedly also published in some newspapers and broadcast in some
radio and television .
They were excited over that but were
scared as the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) said they have not
called off the strike.
Professor Godwin Onu, in a statement
said to have been signed by the Registrar , Tony Olih -Nwaokolobia announced
the resumption of the Polytechnic on Monday 7th July ,2014 to avoid
missing out the academic year completely.
The old students and new students are
asked to return to the school but whatever the situation would cause only time
would tell based on tensed mood between the ASUP in Oko and the Rector as well
as between the Community and the Rector.
Prof Onu had pleaded with members of
the institution’s ASUP union, to call off their strike that has lasted for 11
months.
Already odogwuemekaodogwu.com
reports that there are two sets of first year students in the institution, with
those who have gained admission unsure of when they will resume studies and
particularly when they will resume studies.
Odogwuemekaodoguw.com quotes Dailyschoolnews
on the award to the Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Oko. It said the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Nwokolobia,
was honoured with the leadership excellence award as the most outstanding Delta
State indigene in the academia, Onu, who spoke through the deputy rector of the
Polytechnic, Dr. Don Muo, regretted that students who ought to have graduated
had remained at home, while those who have completed all the processes for
admission, were yet to begin lectures and are just staying at home doing
absolutely nothing.
This particular award was conferred
on him by leaders of Nigerian Youths Students Mandate, NYSM.
According to Mr. Tony, who said that
the ASUP strike has deprived the students the opportunity to receive lectures
for a full academic session. He noted that both the striking workers and
students had missed a lot. But sincerely speaking, who is losing here? if not
the students?
Coordinator of NYSM, Comrade
Davidson Ebere, who also attend the ceremony, said that Nwokolobia, who hails
from Illa in Oshimili South local government area of Delta State, was selected
for the award because of his dedication to the growth of academics and concern
for the progress of youths as future leaders of Nigeria.
According to Nwokolobia, who said
that Nwokolobia has been source of inspiration for Nigerian students in almost
all part of the country. the Coordinator also went on to add that they would
continue to approach him for necessary advice as they mature in their various
endeavours.
He urged the country’s leaders to be
mindful of the way they treat the youths because they were the hope for future
development.
He said: “Our duty is to continue to
grow and groom students to be better citizens and our promise is that we will
not go below the expectation of Nigerians”.
We would love you to recall that the
asup strike commence last year October, and till date, has not been called off.
