odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports exclusively that in a bid to alleviate poverty, create employment and curb youth restiveness in the area, Obeledu, an agrarian community in Anaocha Local Government of Anambra State has embarked on training of her youths in various skills acquisition such as soap making, fish production among others.

Over 500 youths have already been trained while more will still be trained in other skills.
Obeledu Progressive Union (OPU) has promised to provide initial capital to assist the trainees start off any small scale business that will enable them be employers of labour.

 

 The Chairman, Finance and Investment Committee of OPU, Chief Innocent Ilozumba urged the trainees to form a cooperative society to enable them access loans from Micro Finance banks and bank of Industries for procurement of materials and logistics needed for the business.

He stated this at the Civic centre, Obeledu, during the one day training workshop and empowerment of over 50 participants who were trained on Innovative Table Fish Production by a resource person on the programme and CEO Teemartins  Aquaculture and agro allied products ltd, Mr Emeka Iloghalu.
Iloghalu is now the SA Fishery to Governor Willie Obiano.

Ilozumba further appealed to the participants to extend the information gathered therein to others who could not attend the programme adding that such gesture will no doubt increase their wealth and income generation which according to him, will attract investors and government presence to the community.


Chairman of the occasion, and Secretary, Finance and Investment Committee of  OPU, Barr. Edwin Ikechukwu on his part, called on youths to return to agriculture rather than engage in social vices, fraud or crime, emphasizing that the country was in dire need of vibrant entrepreneurs to move the nation forward, noting that it was among reasons OPU earlier organized similar seminar where over 50 indigenes of Obeledu were taught and empowered on soap making business.

A guest lecturer at the programme, Mr. Emeka Iloghalu in a lead paper entitled: “Prospective Innovative Platforms in Aquaculture Value Chain” identified the following innovative platforms in aquaculture as viable options: fingering production, feed production, table fish production, aquaculture product marketing platform, post harvest processing, aquaculture logistics and equipment fabrication among others.

He charged Africans to give more priority to aquaculture and agriculture with a view to boosting the economy of the continent as well as forestall poverty even as he enumerates its function to include: individual’s financial autonomy, self-reliant, nutritious and medicinal.

Teemartins Boss now SA Fishery to Obiano however advised the participants to join the business in mechanized way for optimum service delivery, commercialization, regular production, steady supply and uses in hotels, eateries, and events, stressing that fish farming did not require millions, apartment or ponds before it could be established.

“You can become a billionaire and employer of labour with just 50 fingerings and a rubber butter which serves as fish pond” he said.


Some of the participants, Dr. Nicodemus Ezenniya and Miss Chetachukwu Ukachukwu vowed to combine aquaculture production with their profession with the intention of boosting food production and massive employment creation in the country.
