reports that President Goodluck
Jonathan, put a call through to former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari,
to commiserate with him over the bomb blasts that nearly hit him in Kaduna, on
Wednesday.
The president, according to sources
close to the administration, thanked God that Buhari escaped the blast unhurt.
The call, which was made late on
Wednesday, was, according to sources, aimed at reassuring the General that the
president was concerned about his safety as well as that of any other Nigerian.
“The president was really touched at
the mishap in Kaduna, especially that it nearly hit a former head of state,
General Buhari. He personally put a call through to the General after breaking
his fast on Wednesday, to express gratitude to God for sparing Buhari’s life,”
the source said.
It added that the president further
sought the cooperation of all Nigerians, including Buhari, in tackling the
problems of insurgency.
He was also said to have assured
Buhari that the government would do everything possible to bring the
perpetrators of the attack to book.
A source said that the call, which
lasted for close to 10 minutes, saw the two leaders expressing readiness to
work together to bring insurgency to its knees in Nigeria.
