Human Rights Group Advocates For Girl-Child Education In Anambra, Commends Malala



          
odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that a Human Rights advocacy group, Voice to the People (V2P) project has advocated for female-child education in Anambra State and by extension, Nigeria, insisting that girl child education is not negotiable in the face of the onslaught of the effect of globalization and its impacts in controlling the economic opportunities needed for sustainable living.

odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that the group however commended Pakistani girls’ education campaigner, Malala Yousafzai, who recently visited Nigeria for her birthday and to add a voice to the movement demanding more efforts from the Federal Government and the international community to bring back the abducted Chibok girls.

odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com informs that V2P partners, who were in Awka, Anambra State for a 3-day capacity strengthening workshop, lent their voice to the plight of the kidnapped Chibok girls and urged the Federal Government to expedite action in ensuring that the girls are released.
In press statement, signed by Barr. Judith Ezeanyika of the Civil Society Organisation, Ms Eucharia Anekwe of JDPC, Awka,  Emma Agada Abah of Development in Practice and five others, the group condemned in strong terms, the kidnap of the Chibok girls and subsequent delay in ensuring that they are released

According to them, “the aim of the v2p campaign is to ensure that girls are given equal opportunities to acquire education that will empower them to compete favourably in the society. The kidnap of the chibok gilrs by the insurgents is an attempt to drag the nation back into the dark ages and should be jettisoned.
The participants agreed that, “every child has a right to education as stipulated in the Child’ Right Law of Anambra state, so, we therefore implore the Federal government to use all available means to ensure the safe return of the girls to their grieving parents.
Barr. Judith further disclosed in an interview that V2P project gives voice to the people and makes governance work for npoor and marginalised people.
She further stated that more than 700 people in 48 communities of Anambra State have been trained by the group to support the communities develop action plans and charters of demands to engage with the state and local Government about their needs.
