part of efforts to ensure enduring peace and security at communities bordering
Anambra State with other states, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie
Obiano has reached out to his Kogi State counterpart, Idris Wada towards
initiating measures to ensure enduring solution to incessant attacks on Anambra
border communities.

that Governor Obiano stated this Tuesday evening when he visited victims
attacked by gunmen from Kogi State, at a fishing community of Aguleri-Otu,
Anambra East Local Government Area.
Governor Obiano eassured “we are working out
comprehensive strategy and modalities to entrench lasting peace and check
excesses of the miscreants, the attack has nothing to do with the oil producing
area as some people claim but an aggression by some misguided persons. “
He enjoined Aguleri people to remain calm and
not to take laws into their hands as the government is already on top of the
situation.
According to some of the victims who spoke when
Governor Obiano visited them at a private hospital, in Onitsha, unknown gunmen
invaded the community from Kogi State around half past one in the afternoon and
started shooting sporadically at fishermen and farmers who were at work. He
confirmed that three persons were killed and eight others sustained various degrees
of injuries from the gun shots.
Also the Governor said the Kogi Governor has
apologized over the unfortunate incident and warned their youths to desist from
such unprovoked aggression and directed immediate transfer of all the victims
to Saint Charles Borromeo Hospital Onitsha, for better treatment, assuring that
they State government will foot the entire hospital bill.
