Chief Timothy Onwuka ; Recipient Of Pillar of Development Award Tasks Government On Funding Of Education

       

 
odogwuemekaodogwu.blogspot.com reports that a pillar of Development Award recipient by the Leadership and Role Model Foundation of Nigeria, Chief Timothy Onwuka has enjoined governments of all levels in Nigeria to pay more attention to funding of education, saying the industry is the most neglected.

Speaking after he was conferred with the award at Choice Hotel, Awka, Anambra State, Chief Onwuka lamented a situation where an average pupil or students can not have quality education, blaming the trend of inadequate funding and misplacement of priorities.

Chief Onwuka who described education as his bedrock recalled how he grew up with educationists around him, stressing that his parents ‘positive disposition to education helped to chart the direction for him, and asserted that parents have a role to play in eliciting and sustaining the interest of their children and wards in education.

He lamented the quest for materialism and quick money, which he said accounted for low male drop in education, and
urged the government to check the ugly trend through encouraging early education for the youths before they go into business or setting up part time school programme near the markets.

While appreciating the award bestowed on him by the Foundation, he stated that he has to structure himself in everything believing in education pointing out that he has contributed immensely towards the propagation of quality education.

According to him, it is painful and a thing of regret that education has not been programmed to meet the needs of majority of people at the grassroots level, vowing to pursue the course of ensuring access to education to al especially less privileged and indigent ones.

He said he would use the platform afforded him as a Pillar of Development to advance educational opportunities stressing that there is nothing that can compare good education. “Education is my bedrock. … I grew up with educationists around me…There is nothing that can
compare with god education. Education is one of the most neglected industries in the country. Government should do more inn funding education .
