reports that following the repeated traffic gridlock in Apapa, Lagos, the
Federal Government has swung into desperate action, in a bid to resolve the
pains inflicted on commuters and workers at the core of the nation’s maritime
industry.
To this end, the Federal Roads Committee on Surveillance and Action Against Road Abuse (FERCSARA), in conjunction with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), at the weekend moved on the massed trailers, tankers, containers and trucks, which lined both entry routes into Apapa, Nigeria’s premier seaport.
Moving around the maritime hub in a convoy of pick-up trucks with armed policemen and a blaring loudspeaker, officials of both agencies called on the errant drivers to remove their vehicles immediately or face arrest and prosecution for road obstruction and abuse.
In a move which was witnessed by odogwuemekaodogwu.com today, drivers of the numerous container trucks and tankers parked along Ijora-Apapa Wharf road and those who lined the other entry route along Creek Road were told to move their vehicles and stop blocking the road or be prepared for arrest and court action.
