Following the advocacy
call to the Federal
Government of Nigeria by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, for the institution of an amnesty programme
to rehabilitate youth members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the
Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Biafra Zionist Movement (BZM),
groups from Anambra Youth extraction, identified as Ibezi Youth Vanguard, has
thrown their weight behind Chief Umeh, admitting that many youths from Igbo
extraction have been misused by some leaders.
Recall that Chief Victor
Umeh, in a press briefing at Enugu, enjoined government to release unconditionally, members of the
pro-Biafra groups held in cells across the country in the spirit of the
national reconciliation and as well urged Federal Government to halt the
prosecution of BZM members arrested in Enugu and MASSOB members standing trial,
in the spirit of the amnesty.
He however likened
MASSOB youths to the Niger Delta militants who were granted amnesty by the
government, venting that the MASSOB youths were misused by their leader, Chief
Ralph Uwazurike.
Meanwhile, MASSOB, through its spokesman, Mazi Chris
Mocha described Umeh as a political jobber who works against the interest of
MASSOB, saying that the movement doesn’t want amnesty but Sovereignty, pointing
out that MASSOB rejected Federal Government Committee on amnesty programme in
2013.
The Ibezi Youth Vanguad
in a release signed by its National president, Comrade Chukwuemeka Okwose and
the Publicity secretary, Ifeanyi Udoh tip Umeh as the only honest man in Igbo
land for his courage on amnesty issue and as well declared him the best
candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial zone, come 2015.
“Umeh’s stand on amnesty
reflects the wishes of Ndi-Igbo especially the youths because our colleagues
are in various cells languishing. That is the kind of thing we expect from our
leaders, and not leaders who can spend 4years in the senate only to come back
with a mobile and wireless toilet at the tune of N250m.
We want people that will
be a voice and a father to the youths. We have been pushed to the wall in this
nation, yet, nobody cares about us and that is why we need a courageous leader
like Ohamadike ndi Igbo in the senate” it reads.
