Drama Over Igweship In Ogwu-Aniocha As Obiano Flags-Off Construction Of Ogbaru Road Amidst Rulership Tussle
Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that there was a mild drama last
Wednesday at the Umunankwo end venue of a proposed road construction billed to
be officially flagged-off when two elderly men who lay claim to the traditional
rulership of Ogwu- Aniocha community in Ogabru Local Government Area both
arrived to the venue of the flag-off in complete royal regalia.
Both claimants to the stool we later gathered are half-brothers
from different mothers as their father married six wives when he was alive.
The drama started when Chief Nwajeri Nnaji the younger brother to
the other claimant who first arrived the venue of the occasion was seen
acknowledging cheers from his supporters on the shout of “Igwe! Igwe!! Igwe!!!”
Rented the air.
Odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that not comfortable with the
acknowledgment supporters of Chief Oliver Nnaji who is believed to be the elder
brother of Chief Nwajeri Nnaji could not withhold their patience and demanded
that Chief Nwajeri Nnaji should vacate the seat he was occupying as he was not
the government recognized traditional ruler, a position which his supporters
rejected claiming that it was the community that enthroned him as their
traditional and not chief Oliver Nnaji who was given a certificate of
recognition by the Anambra State Government on 12th of March this
year.
However, the situation was brought under control when naval
personnel who had arrived the venue to maintain security dispersed the crowd
while the claimants remained still on their seats.
During the flag- off of work at the 14.5km Umunankwo/Mputu/Ogwu-
Aniocha road construction which is estimated to cost the state government about
N4.5 billion naira, the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano reminded the
beneficiaries the need to co-operate with the contractor to achieve the desired
result, stressing that when completed it would open up economic and social
activities of the people who would no longer find it difficult to evacuate
their farm produce as they were mainly farmers.
In an interview, Ogbaru Local Government Chairman, Chief Victor
Agolue thanked the governor for awarding contract for the construction of
the road which he said would link up the indigenes with their kiths and
kin in Ihiala and beyond. He remarked that the road with enhance economic and
social life of the people.
In his reaction the President- General of Ogwu- Aniocha community,
Mr. Innocent Udom and two other community leaders, Messrs Joseph Uzoamaka and
Lawrence Emejor stressed the importance of the road to the three benefitting
communities and promised to work towards the timely completion of the road and
advised the contractor, TAMAD construction Ltd not to disappoint the people.
