CNPP Endorses Jonathan For 2nd Term

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) on Wednesday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for 2nd term after reviewing its monumental transformation agenda successes.

``We hereby pass a vote of implicit confidence and urge him (Jonathan) to show interest to serve this great country for the second term,’’ CNPP said in a statement.

The statement, which was issued to newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, was signed by Hon. Oby Okafor and Sir Peter Okala, who are the Chairman and Secretary of CNPP South-East respectively.

It said that Mr President, whose huge successes recorded so far in his transformation agenda in all sectors of the economy, had kept Nigeria united in spite of the ``numerous challenges the country is currently facing’’.

``And if any other president who does not have a matured and humane nature be at the centre to handle the present crises and there would have been no Nigeria by now.

``Mr President had been able to handle the terrorism issue very well and had brought it to global attention.

``As well as attracted a lot of empathy and sympathy for the country,’’ it said.

The statement noted that under President Jonathan’s leadership there had been a clear cut separation of power and the arms of government totally operating without interference.

``There had been no interference in the National Assembly as well as the Judiciary.

``Whereas in previous administration you have great interference in the legislative duties of the national assembly. The leadership of the houses had been stable.

``The Judiciary had been allowed to give judgment without fear or favour even having pronounced judgments against the executive,’’ it said.

It said that opposition parties under President Jonathan’s administration had a hitch-free activities and movements.

The statement, however, noted that the appointment and retaining of Prof. Attahiru Jega, as the INEC Chairman had added a lot of credibility to the electoral process.

In related development, CNPP has lauded the selfless efforts of Comrade Ateke Tom, a Port Harcout-based activits, in returning peace to the Niger Delta.

``We have course to celebrate a mustard seed planted 52 years ago that has become an Iroko tree now giving shelter to all and sundry.

``Comrade Ateke Tom, your unquantifiable and selfless contributions has laid a solid foundation of peace to Niger Delta, Nigeria, Africa and the World at large.

``The abductions and insurgency in the North is now an eye opener to all Nigerians; to what would have happened to the South-East and South-South if not for the timely intervention of this great son of the Niger Delta,’’ it said.
