Anambra Actors Guild Members Cry At Amawbia Prison , Want Obiano To Construct Film Village






odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) otherwise known as Nollywood Anambra state chapter today cried out to Governor of Anambra state , Chief Willie Maduabuchi Obiano's led administration to construct a film village in the state.
The Actors Guild urged Obiano’s government to expedite action toward the construction of a film village in Awka that will serve as a tourist attraction centre, rallying point for entertainers and as well boost the revenue generation of the state.


They also appealed to the Governor to build for them a befitting secretariat, as well provide them with location buses and other necessary logistics such as funding. 

The state chairman of AGN Anambra, Chief Samson Obidinma (Bidis) (JP) made the appealed on the occasion of 2014 AGN Democracy Charity Carnival with theme: "Sustaining Democracy Through Entertainment".
He stated that the Guild chose the theme taken into cognizance the unquantifiable role of Nollywood in producing movies that engender attitudinal changes for an egalitarian society, noting that through highlighting undemocratic practices in a democratic society such social malaise and other vices would be checkmated.

odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that Mr. Obidinma, noted that AGN a democratic entity has no doubt contributed immensely to the growth and sustainability of the nation's democracy.
'As partners in progress with government at all levels in job creation, nation building and employment of labour etc, there is no gainsaying the fact that so many graduates who should have been roaming the street in  search of non-existing white collar jobs are now gainfully employed by the Nollywood. As the third largest movie producer in the world after Hollywood and Indian Bollywood. Nollywood is equally foreign exchange earner for the nation via films', Obidinma said.


Also speaking the AGN state secretary, Mr. Eddiking Ifeanyi Mbachu, implored the state government, donor agencies, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists to assist AGN Anambra by donating funds for movie production, partner the Guild in all its activities so as to meaningfully engage the youths noting that it would in turn curb youth restiveness, unemployment, kidnapping, insurgency and as well ensure that crime rate in the state be reduced to its barest minimum.

Speaking on their visit to the prison inmates, the chairman expressed displeasure over the lack of government pressence and called for concerted efforts to ameliorate the plight  of the inmates noting that they came to celebrate 15 solid years of uninterrupted democracy with their brothers who through one means or the other found themselves in the prisons.

In their separate speeches, the Director of Guild services AGN Anambra chapter and the chairman planning committee, Mr. Piccolo Chidozie Obi and the state AGN Public Relations Officer, comrade Roy Ekwunife explained that AGN was born as a platform upon which the acting industry in Nigeria would be regulated, saying that the body had assisted fulfilling dreams and opening the cultures of Nigeria and Africa to the entire world adding that it was also founded to meet the yearnings of many Nigerians who derived joy in viewing actors and actresses as they preach peace, oneness and Gospel the acting.

odogwuemekaodogwu.com further notes that the duo enjoined all Nigerians as they prayed for the quick release of over 200 abducted Chibok school girls in Borno state, North East, Nigeria that was kidnapped by Boko Haram over a month ago in their dormitories.


Responding the deputy comptroller of Awka prison, Mr. Emmanuel Oguejiofor represented by the Chief Warder, CSP Sunday Chijioke Orji thanked AGN Anambra for gesture Mr. Oguejiofor while commending them also appealed to the government and public spirited individuals to come to their aid and provide them with portable water and all other basic amenities.


Items donated by AGN Anambra were cartons of bar soap, bags of sachet water, beverages, bed spread, toiletries and a cash gift of 10,000 Naira.

Praise and worship songs by the prison inmates, words of encouragement from visitors formed the highlights of the occasion, the event also featured who and who in the Nollywood industry.
