National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) zone-B, yesterday inaugurated
the new Executives that will pilot the affairs of the zone in the next one year
after a successful convention held last week at Cross River College of
Education, Akamkpa in Cross River State.
The new Excos were sworn-in at the auditorium of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State in a rowdy session.
The
Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Youths and Students
Matters, Hon. Aguocha Chidi and Dean, Students Affairs, Federal University of
Technology, Owerri, Prof. Magnus Chima-Offor advised the new executives to
build on the foundation led by their predecessors by working together as a
team.
Other
elected Executives of NANS Zone-B include: the Deputy Coordinator from UNIBEN,
Ekutu Richard, Secretary General (FUTO) Okafor Chuks, PRO (Delta State
University) Pedro Chibuzo-Obi, Director of Sports (Ebonyi State University) Eze
Paul, Dir. Action and Mobilization (ESUT) Victor Ezenagu.
As
well as Dir. External Affairs (Ambrose Ali University) Enadamen Aliyu, Dir. Of
Special Duties (University of Uyo) Aniefie Inyang, Treasurer (Abia Poly)
Okwuisi Rodney, Fin-Sec (UNICAL) Ogah Mercy Awu, Assistant Secretary General
from UNIPORT, Comr. Lah Ledogo Amabu.
However,trouble started when some sections of students from Abia State Polytechnic insisted that the newly elected treasurer from their institution, Mr. Okwuisi Rodney will not be sworn-in as the treasurer of the Union on the ground that he is not a student of the polytechnic.

leader of the delegation, Mr. Nwamu Chikezie Clinton said Rodney was expelled
and declared wanted by the polytechnic management.
Amidst their protest, the 2014 convention Committee Chairman, Comrade Aruna Kadinu sworn in the new EXCOS, describing the protesters as enemies of progress, stressing that all the candidates were thoroughly screamed by the Department of Security Service (DSS) before the election.

Anambra State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano represented by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on youth mobilization, Comrade Chinedu Obidigwe congratulated the new EXCOS and charged them on hard work, commitment and selfless service adding that Anambra State will at all times support any good cause of the organization.
In his acceptance speech, the new zonal coordinator, Comrade Okorie Ikechukwu thanked all members for considering them worthy to lead the union. He revealed that the new EXCOS will embark on four points agenda which according to him include; advocacy visits cum crisis resolutions in campuses, Senate meetings of the zone-B NANS, capacity building for the newly elected students union presidents and plans to immortalize the Former Senate President of NANS, late Donald Onukogu who lost his wife in June last year while embarking on conflict resolution in one of the campuses in Nigeria.
