The Anambra State House of Assembly has condemned the recent abduction
of more than two hundred school girls by the murderous Boko Haram
Islamic sect few weeks ago.
The House therefore urged the federal government to intensify a
sustained effort towards expeditious rescuing of the abducted girls.
Such, according to the lawmakers would encourage effective tackling of
the menace of terrorism in Nigeria.
The Assembly had in a motion during plenary, the member representing
Idemili North constituency; Tony Muonago alongside others enumerated
what they saw as the dastardly acts of the Boko Haram sect in the
country including the bomb blast in Nyanya, a suburb of the nation’s
capital city of Abuja and the recent abduction of the girls.
Another member, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu (Nnewi South) described the
activities of the sect as “terrible,” especially, the forceful
conversion of the abducted girls to Islam as shown in a video released
by the sect.
Mr. Ebele Obi(Idemili South), urged the federal government to do more
towards the rescue mission and appealed to parents of the girls to
take solace in the fact that it is now receiving global attention.
Also Paully Onyeka, representing Ekwusigo constituency felt for the
psychological trauma of the affected parents, called for the repeal of
chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution” to be able to make it justiciable.
