Using Football to Curb Insurgency: The Mr Godwin Ezeemo Style

                                

Erstwhile governorship candidate of the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA) in the November16,2013 governorship election in Anambra, Mr Godwin Ezeemo has advocated systematic massive grassroots football competitions in the country as panacea to youth restiveness and insurgence.

Ezeemo , a Philanthropist and chief financier Ezeemo Charity Trust for less privileged stated this on Monday during the 2014 edition of Ezeemo Unity Football Competition held at the Ekwulobia Township Stadium to mark the Easter ceremony.

The Ezeemo Unity Cup football competition is an annual tournament being organised by the Old Aguata union education zone among the communities that made up the old Agauta local government areas viz:
Umuchu, Achina, Amaeshi, Igbo-Ukwu, Akpo Aguata, Uga,and Umunze.

These communities span to four state constituencies namely Aguata 1,Aguata 2, Orumba North , and Orumba South and being sponsored by Charity Ezeemo Trust for the Less Privileged since 2006.

In an address ,the sponsor of the tournament Mr Godwin Ezeemo , a philanthropist and a publisher of Orient Dailies said he was delighted at the progress recorded so far by the organizers of the tournament

He urged the organizers in Aguata sports council not to relent in their bid to catch younger talents through the sport search medium in the zone as no society would make meaningful development without sport.

He said‘ Football all over the world has remained a tool of unity pooling old and young together with goal of suppressing stress, social restiveness and creating work for the youth
.
Ezeemo who spoke through Dr Okey Ejikeme said that the aim of the unity cup was to extend hands of fellowship to the Government in Sport development with idea of ‘Catch them Young for the nation’’ to be able to have celebrities in sports from OAU through the search.

He maintained that " to engrave the history of OAU in the heart of upcoming youths to ensure they trace and build their brotherhood in all their affairs of life, to create awareness for the place of sports in the scheme of things world over. "

Ezeemo advised the young never to play sports to the detriments of their academics as according to him "no career or venture without good background of education will stand , ‘therefore marry your sports with sound education as that will see you through when you retire from active sports.

odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that Ezeemo said that the Trust is in the business of awarding scholarship to promote education ,expressing gratitude to sports ministry ,post primary school service commission(PPSSSC)Red cross Aguata area , Referees association Aguata zone , Civil Defense Corps Aguata Division ,among others .

In separate interviews Mr Osy Adibe ,chairman Referees Aguata ,commended the outcome of the tournament and comportment of the young players, the tournament had four referrers Okoli Ebele Ofem Cailistus and Odumuodu Stephen .

 
Miss Christiana Umeokwuobi sports officer Aguata said that the tournament had being a tool of pooling the pupil and student of the zone together.

She said that the sponsor has achieved the feet of catching sports talents in the zone as the students had showed salted interest in the tournament and do look and work towards it yearly.
