Peaches Geldof, the jet-setting socialite daughter
of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates, has died. She was 25.
Police
were called to an address near Wrotham, Kent, following a report of concern for
the welfare of a woman on Monday afternoon.
"At
this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and sudden," the
Kent Police said in a statement. "They are now working to establish the
circumstances surrounding the death."
Bob Geldof
told the AP in a statement: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was
the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.
Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child.
"How
is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved
her and will cherish her forever," Bob Geldof continued. "How sad
that sentence is. Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our
family, fractured so often, but never broken. Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and
Tiger Geldof."
Peaches
Geldof was a British television personality, model, and also wrote for Elle
magazine, the Telegraph, and the Guardian. She was married to Thomas Cohen,
lead singer of the band S.C.U.M, with whom she had two sons, 1-year-old Astala,
and Phaedra, who will turn 1 on April 24.
"My
beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra,
and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts every day. We shall
love her forever," Cohen said in a statement.
Prior to Cohen, Geldof dated actor Eli Roth
and was also married to American musician Max Drummey. On Sunday night, Geldof's last tweet was a photo of herself and her late mother. She captioned the shot: "Me and my mum."
When Geldof was 11, her mother died of a drug overdose in September 2000.
"I
remember the day my mother died, and it's still hard to talk about it,"
she told Elle in 2012. "I just blocked it out.
I went to school the next day because my father's mentality was 'keep calm and
carry on. So we all went to school and tried to act as if nothing had happened.
But it had happened. I didn't grieve. I didn't cry at her funeral. I couldn't
express anything because I was just numb to it all. I didn't start grieving for
my mother properly until I was maybe 16."
Geldof was last seen at the F+F fashion show
in London on Thursday.
She also
leaves behind sisters Fifi Trixibelle and Pixie, and younger half-sister Tiger
Lily Hutchence Geldof.
