Oko Crisis: Meta Meta Chukwudi Nwankwo Whose Guest House Was Burnt Cries Out For Help

Oko indigene and staff of Federal Polytechnic Oko , Mr Chukwudi Nwankwo known as Meta Meta in Oko and environs yesterday wept like a baby as he narrated his ordeal in the hands of the youths that looted and  burnt his Guest house completed six months ago.He said his life is in danger.

odogwuemekaodogwu.com reports that Okonkwo said he was still baffled on what brought the youths to his Guest house about 15 minutes drive from the Polytechnic gate to another community to burn his house which according to him was built by borrowed money. 

 

He said that the six rooms Guest House with Big bar and Bush bar was built for taste and for relaxation of guests after hard work with a loan only for youths partly out of envy and jealousy that he is foresighted and working hard to improve his means of livelihood burnt his property whereas they only destroyed part of buildings of others they perceived were supporting the Traditional ruler and the community.   

 

He said he is yet to pay back the loan he borrowed before this ugly fate beffel him even as he apealed for intervention of the Federal government, Anambra state government and the Oko prominent citizens into the matter before lives would be lost.

In an emotion laden voice Meta meta said his only crime could be that he challenged the renagdes who cover under the guise of youths to humilate the traditional ruler and authority of the community giving example of the day at a meeting the so called youths attempted to carry the files of the executive which he challenged them  as well as another day the community was locked out which he said vocally was wrong.

He furtehr accused the police of connivance as the DPO and other security agencies were alerted to come to his aide when one of the youths called him to inform him that the youths were coming  to burn his Guest house but they did nothing. He also accused Amaokpala community of connivance as the vigilante leadership of the community was contacted for protection yet they did nothing with the boys staying over one hour looting and burning his property without intervention.

Nwankwo said: ‘’ I have asked myself many times what my offence was but could not answer that question. I cant tell how I got involved for them to burn down my property. So I concluded it was envy, jealousy because I built a Guest house when they taught I could not feed my family. 

 

‘’The only area I am involved is that I am a loyal member of the community in support of the right things and in support of Igwe Ekwueme. Others supporting Igwe had some part of their building destroyed or their motorcycle burnt but my own , they looted all and burnt my property down completely , the looted the new television sets, beds and all the Refrigerators and everything the Guest house was equipped with even carried away one of the 2 numbers of 88,000 SUMEC generators. They burnt one SUMEC generator. Remember that the community suspended these youths sometime ago and they have continued to cause confusion and constitute nuisance which I stoutly stood against. Probably that was why I became a target of the attack.

‘’I can tell you that the police was compromised. I personally called the Anti Cult of the Polytechnic where I work that something like this is going to happen and that I needed assistance to prevent break down of law and order but he did nothing. I called Amaokpala Vigilante and informed him to bring his men and save my property in their community but he did nothing and I equally called the head of SSS in Orumba but they did nothing too. I called our legal Adviser to call the DPO because he came new , I don’t have his number he did and confirmed the man switched off phone on his ears.

‘’Then eventually these boys trekked more than 30 minutes to my Guest house and spent one hour eating , drinking and looting before setting the compound ablaze without intervention from any quarters . That is why I am suspecting Amaokpala people in the design of evil against me in their community. Why would strange people enter their community and stay hours unchallenged. I f I had done the contrary in self defense and many got killed , what would people be saying  now but I maintained the peace as a law abiding citizen. I was at a vintage watching them carrying my foams, television sets, Generators and drinks before finally burning everything .

‘’I had a customer that they snatched away his motorcycle  and items and property too numerous to mention and worth several millions of naira. I am too shocked to take inventory yet. I am convinced Amaokpala people are involved because I see no reason why strangers should enter their community like that and left unchallenged.  They made sure the VIP Bar was burnt beyond repair.

‘’The worst challenge now is that the Federal Government is effecting no work , no pay and for two months now , no salary but my little efforts to assist myself turned into agony and sorrow and had it been I am not man enough it was enough to make me think suicide because how can I feed my family without all my hopes razed down by man’s inhumanity against man because of pettiness , jealousy and envy.    

‘’The entered by 7:30 pm but there was light and I saw some of their faces. Some are from Oko and others were strangers. Those I know would know the strangers in their midst but I am calling on the Federal Government , the state government and entire Oko community to rise to this challenge before more damages are done. There is already chaos in the community because of some youths that were sponsored to challenge the authority of the President General and the traditional Ruler in their community yet they want complete obedience to their own orders elsewhere? ‘’.
