Mixed Reactions Trail APC's 326 Ward Congresses in Anambra

                                            

 The ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in the 326 electoral wards in Anambra State was trailed by mixed reactions.

Some members of the Youth Wing of the party led by one Chuks Obele created a stir when they came to the Awka Secretariat of the congress committee, demanding for the cancellation of the congress for what they called 'a more transparent, well organized process.'

This happened even as the sale of forms and screening of candidates were in still in progress. They urged the APC leadership to ensure that no one plays the role of a godfather in the party.

It took the intervention of combined team of policemen and party elders to persuade the youth to allow peace reign pledging to look into the matter. 

Secretary of the Anambra State Congress Committee, Mr. Chijioke Owanta, accused the chairman of the congress, Mr. Ezennia Ogbuehi of breaching the guidelines of the congress as spelt out by the party, alleging that the chairman was running a one man show, hence he decided to speak out with a view to exonerating himself from the outcome of the process.

He listed the non-publication of list of candidates and venues at least 48 hours to the congress, as well as the violation of the 72 hours allowed for candidates to complete and return their application forms as some of the congress guidelines contravened by the chairman.
He also raised issues about what he called the “non transparent posture of the committee chairman,” Mr. Ezennia Ogbuehi.

According to Owanta, the congress committee chairman never allowed him sees any of the congress materials or know where they were kept or the actual quantity supplied for the process in Anambra state.
The congress committee secretary  said it was his constitutional duty to take possession of the materials which were hidden from his view and knowledge.

But the congress committee chairman Mr. Ezennia Ogbuehi said that everything followed the party’s guidelines and that the list of candidates and venues were published on Monday evening.
He also said that the committee used option A4 so that every contestant will prove his popularity in the field.
