Late Ikechukwu Nnaemeka of Akaeze village , Urum Awka North local government area killed on 2014 New Year Day by vigilante men was yesterday laid to rest amidst tension , lamentation,  tears and anguish. 


Late Ikechukwu the only son of his parents left behind his lovely pregnant wife , aged parents and relatives after he was killed in a mysterious circumstances suspected to be out of greed and jealousy.
 But the sight of the scene was emotional as women and children even youths and some men were seen literally crying and cursing the killers of the young man. Angry youths visibly angry were busy drinking hot dry gin
and making several noise, depicting their anger and frustration that
Ikechukwu one of the promising young men in the community was plucked
out in his unripe age by evil men.
He was allegedly abducted on the same New Year day
right inside the compound of the leader of the Community Vigilance
group after he returned from Enugu his abode for the New Year and or four days, his whereabouts was not known till the fourth day when his decomposing body was discovered in a nearby bush.

The elder sister to the deceased, Mrs. Ebere Nwankwo lamented that the
life of her only brother was cut short in such a controversial manner,
while accusing some people in the community of conniving to kill her
brother.

She described her brother as an easy going and peace loving gentleman
who had remained a very good friend of the people of the community and
called on the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the
murder of her brother and fish out the suspected killers.

Counsel to the family of the deceased, Mr. M.C Eze, in
a petition to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Mohammed
Abubakar alleged among other things that the deceased was allegedly
abducted by unknown persons right inside the Vigilante boss’ compound
and killed after which his decomposing body was discovered in a bush
near the house of the vigilante chairman’s home.

In his funeral speech , Archdeacon Uche Ofonakara described the circumstances surrounding the death of Ikechukwu as unfortunate and disclosed that the death of the young man
was orchestrated by enemies of God.

He called on Christians to always know that life is short and brutish,
adding that every Christian should always be living a good life,
knowing that one day, he or she will answer the call which is death.
