Senator Okonkwo Says He Remains In APC As The Best Party In Nigeria

Despite the internal wrangling rocking the Anambra chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Deputy National Chairman, South, of the party, Senator Annie Okonkwo yesterday said he remains in the party because it's the only party that can salvage Nigeria from her current situation.

The senator who disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting of the party in Awka, said "after a proper study of what Nigeria is currently facing today as a nation, especially the insecurity and unemployment problems, it is important that we keep sentiment and personal interest aside and save our nation."

Okonkwo who represented Anambra Central senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly in 2007, was suspended by the party, to investigate the allegation against him that he was involved in anti-party activities during the November 16, Anambra State governorship election.

On  his  suspension, he said, "after the investigation of the party, they find out I was not involved in anti-party activities, that is to say that APC is a party that stands for truth. All the things they said about me have been investigated.
Okonkwo who was also a governorship aspirant of the party in Anambra November 16, governorship election however, stressed that politics is not war, saying that you cannot be because you are a member of APC and stop talking to your friend because he is not in the same political party with you.

He disclosed further: "If there is three persons that spends money on politics, I am among them. I am not in politics because of money. Good things does not come easy and that is why we must unite to finish what we started. APC is our party, it is not anybody's personal property.
According to Okonkwo, "Our congress is coming up this week and we cannot fold our hands and allow the party we invested both our strength and finance to die Anambra State. Secondly, we cannot also fold our hands and be watching our youths suffering. Some youths died penultimate Saturday where they went to write Immigration test. We cannot continue like this.
"We must unite and work together to promote our party because it is the only party that can salvage this country. It is the only party that has the people at heart," the Senator added.
