Rotary Club of Nnewi, District 9140
yesterday commissioned a borehole water project at the cost of over N1million
to complete Umudimkwa, Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State.
Nnewi President of the club, Dr
Charles Chukwudalu Ebulue, said the project was cited at Umudimkwa Community
Primary School in fulfillment of the Rotary International's six areas of focus
including water and sanitation, disease prevention and treatment, maternal and
child health.
Dr Ebulue , a staff of the Nnamdi
Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi explained that the borehole
water made available for the community had undergone series of investigation
and certified microbiologically, chemically and physically fit for human
consumption.
He said Rotary Club had appointed and inaugurated a
five-man committee to see that the water borehole was always functional to
solve the water needs of the benefiting community.
His words: "Water is essential
to life. That is why Rotary is bringing life to Umudimkwa community. This water
project is a venture that will stand the test of time for many years to come’’.
While commissioning the project, the
District Governor, RTN (Dr) Charles Onianwa advised the community members and
the school authorities to guard the water project jeolously and avoid wastage
in their water consumption. He said the essence of the project was to maintain
good sanitary habits amongst the pupils and other users of the water borehole.
