Late Udoji with Ezeemo and Oteh
Members of
the Nigerian Union of Journalists Anambra state council was thrown into morning
yesterday following the calls announcing the death of former chairman of NUJ
Anambra state , Comrade Tochukwu Udoji Omelu. It was devastating this morning
that one could not find a way of writing about it until now when the social
media has taken awash about it.
Comrade
Tochukwu Udoji Omelu was a hardworking leader and courted the friendship of all
not without stepping on some toes. But the great mark of a leader , she always
have a way of saying I am sorry to those she has offended .
But the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi
has described as "glorious and apposie", the posthumous
honorary Doctorate in Law confreered on Late Dim Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu-Ojukwu yesterday by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Speaking to the Press, Chief Obi who attended the ceremony
at the Convocation Arena of the University yesterday, said that Dim Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu- Ojukwu, dead or alive, was eminently qualified for any award
because, according to him, "Ojukwu stood for the dignity of his
people till death, which has been abundantly acknowledged by the people and
institutions of repute concerned with the restoration of the dignity of
man."
Speaking further, Chief Obi said:
"Considering what Dim was to his people, they
loved him profoundly. In death, they still love him
beyond compare.
Obi described the posthumous Honorary Doctorate Degree
in Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which motto is "To Restore
the Dignity of Man", as another gesture of love for what Ojukwu was
and for sacrifices he offered for his people."
The former Governor also took the opportunity to mourn
the death of the former Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ),
Anambra State Chapter, Mrs Toochukwu Udoji Omelu, describing it as sad,
pathetic and a great loss to the journalism profession.
Obi who recalled that Mrs Udoji was the Chairman when he was
the Governor, described her as resourceful, hard working and always thirsty for
success. Though he said that his death was like a thunderbolt to him, he
nonetheless consoled her immediate families, the Journalism's family and
all those affected by her death and prayed to God to grant her eternal rest.
