Enugu-Ukwu Community Charged on Peace

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Godfrey Moutolu, has charged members of the Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Council Area of Anambra to embrace peace.

Moutolu gave the charge on Thursday in Awka while inaugurating a nine-member caretaker community to oversee the affairs of the town union for the next five months.

He said: “We want the crisis in Enugwu-Ukwu town to end with your inauguration. The town should take advantage of having the deputy governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, come from the area,” he said.

Moutolu stressed that the peace and tranquility needed in the community was paramount to the socio-economic development of Njikoka, Dunukofia and Anaocha council areas of the state.

He advised the committee to take decisions that would further unite the people of the area and always forward monthly reports on their activities to his office.

The Special Adviser reminded them that they were expected to conduct election and hand-over to an elected executive by the end of August.

Responding, the chairman of the caretaker committee, Mr Peter Nwaokafor, assured that his committee would collaborate with stakeholders to resolve the lingering leadership crisis rocking the town.

He commended the traditional ruler of the town for starting the process of reconciliation, which he noted led to the inauguration of the committee.

Also speaking, Mr Ossy Akwubuike, the chairman, Enugwu-Ukwu Development Union, Youth Wing, expressed confidence in the committee and pledged the support of the youth.

“We are here to support the new caretaker committee just to make sure that they conduct and handover to an elected executive,” he said.
It could be recalled that the community had been in crisis for more than four years following the existence of two factional town union executives.
