Governor Peter Obi yesterday commissioned
the multi million naira Diagnostic Center at Iyienu
Hospital built by Chief
Emaka Anyaoku in the Hospital in fulfillment of his promise during his 80th
Birthday ceremony and Golden jubilee wedding anniversary.
Obi
charged well meaning Anambrarians to emulate Anyaoku’s example by donating to
health institutions and educational institutions monuments that would
immortalize their names. He said Anyaoku bequeathed the Diagnostic center at
Iyienu because he was born there some 80 years ago.
He said that his Government would continue to
partner with the Church in areas that would be of ultimate benefit to the
people of the State.
Obi
also presented a cheque of N100 Million naira to Bishop Owen Nwokolo at the
event for the equipping of the Iyienu
Hospital, adding that
though the money would not be enough, but that gradually and with commitment by
successive Government, the hospital would in no distant time become a centre of
medical excellence.
At another event Obi further presented
a cheque of N500Million Naira for the continued equipping of the Chukwumeka
Odumegwu-Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Awka, to the Chief Medical Director of the
Hospital, Dr. Ifeanyi Ezeobi .
The Governor also inspecting some
equipment delivered to the hospital, including CT Scan, mammography, Digital X ray, ultra sound,
Anesthetic machines, among others.
Meanwhile, Governor Obi also visited
the St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu, expressed happiness over the completion
of the Dr. Nwiloh Heart Centre, thanked Dr. Nwiloh, whom the centre is named
after and who was present at the ceremony, for his donation of some hospital
equipment to the centre. He also presented a cheque of N200Million Niara for
buying more equipment for the centre to Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor as well as
another N100 Million for on-going work in the hospital.
In a related development, the Governor
laid the foundation stone
of ultra modern maternity and Child Health at Umueje, Ayamelum Local Government
Area. The Centre is one of the ten maternity and Child Health Centres across
the State embarked upon by the State Government in collaboration with Bill and
Melinda Gate Foundation.
The Governor presented cheque of N40
Million Naira to Bishop Anthony Nkwoka for the project as well as for building
staff quarter and sink borehole water scheme to ensure efficient healthcare
delivery services at the centre.
The Governor explained that part of the
fund for the project was from over 1 million dollar first prize award for
being the best in Immunization coverage in 2012, which the State government
supplemented with its own resources to cover more communities.
