All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)
yesterday won over some stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some
members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
Those who declared for APGA at Onitsha
Inland Town playground were over 3,000 including some former members of the
National and State Assemblies like a former member representing Onitsha North
and South Federal Constituency, Lynda Ikpeazu.
Others who declared for APGA were Emeka
Nwamkpa of APC; former members of the State House of Assembly, Lilian Okosi,
Ikenna Amechi and Chinedu Mokwe; a former PDP State Chairman, Dr. Fred Oduah; a
former Transition Committee Chairman, Onitsha North, Mr. Bright Osemeka and
Chief Eddie Okosi, among many others.
Speaking on why they dumped their old party, Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu said they
decided to join APGA because they believed in its ideology and disclosed that
they were collapsing all their political structures into the party.
Also speaking, Chief Eddie Onwumelu said
they were attracted by the landmark achievements of APGA government in the last
eight years. He observed that APGA remained the only platform to protect the
Igbo agenda.
In his remarks, Governor Peter Obi said
the new entrants would be part of the future of the party as APGA would
continue to work as a family to further uplift the party. He explained that
politics should be dynamic and people-oriented to serve the collective interest
of the State.
Also speaking, the Governor-elect, Chief
Willie Obiano, while commending their wisdom and courage called on others to
follow their footsteps and join APGA, describing the party as a moving train
with its doors open for everybody.
Earlier, while receiving them, the
National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh who described them as rich harvest
for the party, noted that since Governor Obi became the National Leader and BOT
Chairman of APGA, all opposition parties were collapsing into APGA because of
his landmark achievements.
Chief Umeh said with the success of APGA
government in the State, other South East States should join the party to forge
a common front as the party was making waves across the centre and was poised
to win more States in the coming elections.
