Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state yesterday
presented three heavy duty waste disposal vehicles to the Anambra State
Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA) . The vehicles include one Pay-loader,
Bull-dozer and a Mac-truck.
Obi spoke at the Government House, Awka
during the presentation said that one of the legacies he would live in Anambra State is the need for continued
improvement in infrastructure in the State to serve the people of the State
better.
Governor Obi, who said the procurement was
in line with the policy of his administration to give every sector adequate
attention, explained that effective sanitation was critical in promoting clean
and healthy environment. He added that the vehicles would facilitate efficient
solid Waste Management.
In another development, the Gov. paid an
unscheduled visit to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital,
Awka. After condoling the patient, including a National Youth Corps
member serving Community
Secondary School, Urum,
Mr. Sunday Abegunde who was attacked by armed robbers, he was conducted round
the facilities of the hospital by the management.
Gov. Obi who was satisfied with what he
saw, said that the State Government had already commenced the process of
providing more facilities and equipment to care for the large number of patient
seeking healthcare services daily in the hospital.
He expressed satisfaction that
repositioning of the institution provided people easy access to quality and
efficient medicare, while the transformation of the Health Sector has continue
to improve all health indicators.
The Commissioner for health, Dr. Lawrence
Ikeakor said the visit allowed the Governor opportunity to inspect facilities
in the institution.
