Ministry of Transport Anambra state
yesterday granted permission to Nigeria Lorry Drivers Association (NILODA) in Anambra State especially Onitsha to perform decongestion duties of her
members for the ministry.
Anambra State Commissioner for
Transport, Dr. Chike C.Ohamobi who announced this yesterday in Onitsha, said the effort was to enable them
fight blockage of roads by their members.
Ohamobi said the latest arrangement will
help end incessant clashes with members of the Anambra State Traffic Agency
(ASTA) and NILODA officials in decongestion exercise involving their members.
He however cautioned NILODA officials
against abuses and warned that the permission will be withdrawn if
the union members are found to be incompetent and fail to work within the
tenets.
In an acceptance speech, the State
Chairman of NILODA, Chief Uche Rogers Nebeuwa pledged to handle the new
assignment with utmost dedication and commitment.
Nebeuwa said the union has procured
towing vans and workforce which will ensure free flow of traffic and avoid any
form of obstruction and congestion on the highways in Anambra. He said that the
era of loading and offloading vehicles along the road is gone and solicited the
cooperation of their members in the task.
