The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) Club under Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
distributed fifty (50) helmets free to Okada riders for their safety.
Cadet in Chief FRSC/ NYSC Club Onitsha Unit Command, Corper Ayomide said the aim of the sensitization was to protect the riders head in preventing and reducing head injury in other to save the rider’s life.
Ayomide said they organized the safety crash helmet sensitization programme for Onitsha Okada riders to reduce several crashes.
He reminded that a study in 2008 of motorcycle
crashes confirmed that those with helmets survived by 69% and 42% by death.
Commander FRSC Onitsha, Mr. Anthony Metta said that
the Corp members tried to achieve the objective of establishing themselves. He added
that they have shown an exemplary behavior to the contribution, development and
welfare of the society where they are serving by donating helmet to okada
riders so as to prevent their lives from casualties.
He urged them to continue in the same vain so as to become good ambassadors of this country adding that they are not working, not doing anything but was able to contribute to the society.
Metta however warned okada riders to obey the law and be mindful of protecting their own lives with the helmet given to them.

The chairman of the occasion and Onitsha North Leader of NYSC, Mr. Omoolorum Johnson thanked God for making their dream come through adding that when preparing for the event, as Corp members, they have nothing in the purse but after everything, God prove himself to the fulfillment of their dreams.
Omoolorum said undo a lot of crashes and accident happened on the roads which prompt in distribution of the helmet but the major aspect of it is to support and reduce crime rate through okada riders by making them be in a union.
Kalu Okolie, the Zonal Inspector in-charge of Onitsha Zone appreciate the Corp members for their initiative, thank the FRSC Onitsha branch for giving them the opportunity to introduce and show their commitments to the host community where they are serving by giving out what they have.
Okolie said the Corp members went through research with an outcome that okada riders in the state doesn’t wear helmet thereby sensitize and giving them free helmet.
He advised the okada riders to utilize the helmet given to them, never to sell it just because it was giving to them by free, urged them to send message and demonstration across on the need of helmet which they have learnt through the event.
One of the club members, Mr. Ekema Ikenna narrates that many Okada riders don’t protect themselves while riding, having known that accident is inevitable and that is why the group decides to give them helmet against hurt in the head and brain in case accident occurs.
