MR. PETER G.O.
OBI
THE EXECUTIVE
GOVERNOR
ANAMBRA STATE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE
AWKA.
MEMO
Your Excellency,
WHY GOVERNMENT SHOULD DEREGISTER, DISBAND AND DISLODGE
ALL MILITANT AND OTHER VIOLENCE PRONE ASSOCIATION, VIGILANTES, MOVEMENTS,
PERSONS AND GROUPS IN THE STATE AS A MATTER OF UTTERMOST URGENCY.
This
organization writes to your Excellency over the matter above - mentioned.
We are seriously
worried over the continued acts of brigandage and subjection of Onitsha and
environs to the rule of jungle by homicidal hoodlums, operating under various
violence – prone groups such as MASSOB,
IGBO YOUTHS, OGBARU YOUTHS, ONITSHA YOUTHS, NARTO, JIMMY BOYS, and ANAMBRA
VIGILANCE GROUPS among others.
Onitsha and
environs had in recent times, become the theatre of homicidal activities and
other forms of criminality, for couple of months now, major parts of the state,
especially Onitsha, Ogbaru, Fegge, Obosi,
Nkpor, 33, Nnewi and Awka had been under serious siege as a result of
different bloody clashes among militant and other violence – prone groups.
This
Organization learn that of all the bloody clashes, the ones that had threaten
the foundation of peace and security of Anambra State and her people had turned
out to be the ongoing clashes between the MASSOB/IGBO
YOUTHS and suspected traders of OLD
MOTOR SPARE PARTS MGBUKA OBOSI and innocent customers of main market
Onitsha who has been subjected to daily extortion and intimidation.
The clashes
above – mentioned have led to the untimely death of dozens of innocent citizens
and destruction of both public and private properties. These coupled with sad
menace of some boys allegedly working for one Jimmy from Agulu which forcefully
collecting money from Okada riders, Tricycle operators even block high ways especially the major cities above
–mentioned an enclave of their lawlessness.
Some suspected hideouts
for these groups includes a uncompleted House along Onitsha – Owerri Road, Mkpikpa layout, Okpoko, Silas works, Fegge, 33
and GRA in Onitsha, Akpaka Forest,
Reserve, Onitsha Main Market, Venn
Road, Obosi Park along Onitsha Owerri Road, Bida Road, Niger Street, Ziks Avenue, Upper Iweka and Nkpor Park near Minaj road among other
suspected hideouts, the recent clashes along Onitsha Owerri Road when some
suspected Massob members attempted to forcefully invade Mgbuka Obosi Old Motor Spare Parts Market to collect tolls, the traders revolted
which resulted the burning of Dangote
long vehicle carrying loads of cement while series of cars were burnt and some
properties worth millions were looted while the Chairman of the market Chief
Ifeanyichukwu Okafor escaped been killed by the mercy of God after he was inflicted
with grievous injury.
The import of this
all-important MEMO is to bring your
Executive office attention, the foregoing state of social and political toxemia
which had beclouded Anambra State and her people in recent times. As the Chief
Security Officer, your executive office is seriously being under-mined by COMMANDER – IN – CHIEF OF ILLEGAL ARMED PERSONS AND GROUPS
within the shores of the state and the prompters of illegalities are in vogue
in Anambra State.
On 14th
February2014, at about 8.30/9am along Niger Street Fegge, some heavily armed
man numbering over four (4) shoot and murdered a BUSINESS MOGUL CHIEF GALANTIN ALIAS (Onwa Ihiala), Late Galantin
who trade at Tools and Allied market Bridge-Head market had sometime last year
kidnapped and release after over two weeks and ransom paid.
FEGGE A CENTRE OF CRIMINALITY IN ANAMBRA STATE
Fegge is one of
the porous city in Anambra State, it has over nine (9) Exit points, which
includes, Niger Street leading to Asaba,
Uga Junction via Express, Premier via Express, Housing Estate via Express, Port
Harcourt Road leading to upper-Iweka, St. Jude leading to Woliwo; Ochanja / via
woliwo, Ochanja Round about, Creek Road near Bida and Niger via Main market among others Criminal take
advantage of the porousness of the exit road and commit crimes.
These entry
points needs to be man by security operatives.
Today, Onitsha,
Anambra State has become a tradition and a settled maxim within the confines of
the theory of brigandage for a group of hoodlums to coin a nomenclature and
rush to the Corporate Affairs Commission Abuja for its baptism, with the
enlistment of socially obstructed nouveau riches as its board of trustees,
especially registration of over seven different names for tricycles Association
in Anambra State unturn creating serious association conflict among its
members.
This
organization also despicably and condemn the nefarious criminal activities of
suspected MASSOB militant elements in the recent time. It is worrisome over by
hoodlums who now go about indulging in conducts not found in the lexicon of the
right to self-determination as embodied in the African Union charter on Human
and Peoples Rights of 1981 and Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the
United Nation Organization of 1948.
Reports of
invasion of markets, homes/residences arrest and abduction of citizens, in some
cases, the rich people, confiscation of properties, extortion, unlawful arrest,
detentions, physical and psychological torturing of captives, acid battering,
have been coming to this organization in especially daily intimidation of keke
drivers and costumers in Onitsha.
Jimmy Boys, ASTA Boys, Emblem Boys reportedly
indulged in various nefarious conducts including, collection of large sum of
money, ranging from N5,000.00 to N9,500.00 from each private and commercial
motorist, keke drivers and okada riders had on 14th February 2014, a
trader with GSM 08064386721 was compel to
pay the sum of N10,000 for what these boys called “matching ground” including residences/homes,
petroleum filling station etc, in which
each residence or petroleum station is allegedly commanded to pay money. This
is not to mention the intolerable usurpation of government revenue windows
(Parks, garages and imposition and forcible collection of sundry criminal
levies like OH-MPA TICKET sold along
Onitsha Owerri Road by OAWAS, ANTOODAS among other sundry levies therein with
impunity.
The number of
arms and other weapons of death in the hands of these criminal gangs in the state
are extremely alarming. Also the Anambra state Police Command is not helping
matters, the leadership of these killer squads and their foot solders and their
felonious activities had always been abetted by some police officer like in okpoko one officer Nwafor Nwaele of Inspectors Daprtment Okpoko
Police Division and other police agents scattered in different police divisions.
We condemn,
unreservedly, the nefarious activities of these homicidal groups
above-mentioned, we also condemn any form of support towards their criminal
activities, either from some senior police officer and rank – and – files who
keep left ear on their criminal activities.
We will align
ourselves with a conscious individual or group with dispassionate interest in
tackling this hydra - monster head-on, the step taken so far by Governor Peter
Obi, Commissioner of Police, SSS and other security and governmental
authorities are not encouraging in tackling the monster and restoring
confidence of our people. In line with the state Governor’s recent banning of
MASSOB, OGBARU YOUTH, and other militant harmful groups.
ONITSHA DRUG MARKET AND PLANS BY SOME ELEMENTS TO
CLOSE SAME
This
organization wishes to alert your public office the plan by some group of men
masquerading as pharmacist and “experts” calling for the closure of the market
over a phantom Allegation of Selling fake drugs, this individuals has a
business interest, we learnt that one of the senior pharmacist has build some
store along Onitsha-ASABA express way which will be officially declare open by
the end of month, the primary aim to eventually close the Drug market where
over 15000 traders make their daily bread, it is on record that 85 percent of
these traders had upgraded their educational qualification and ready to meet
any request/condition or standard as my be directed by NAFDAC among others,
recall that the market was closed down on March 6th, 2007 and
re-opened four months later. The closure left many homes and families shattered
while many people lost their lives during the period above – mentioned.
The organizations
call on your Excellency to consider the interest of millions of dependent
individuals who maybe affected in the event of the market closed down
completely.
Finally, we hope
that this memo will be prudently utilized.
Yours
Faithfully,
