Supremacy battle has torn Amorka community apart
as two parallel town unions vehemently scrambles for recognition by the Anambra
state government.
The parallel town unions which are Amorka
Development Union and Amorka Improvement Union respectively are currently
enmeshed in supremacy battle over who should spearhead the affairs of Amorka
community in Ihiala local government area of the state.
The aforesaid battle has given birth to a
peaceful protest to the government house by the Amorka Development Union led by
the president-general Barr.Lawrence Nwakaeti who during the demonstration said
that their actions were to stamp the people's general acceptance of ADU
as the sole legitimate town union in Amorka community as recommended by a panel
constituted by the state government to look into the matter.
Barr. Nwakaeti however regretted that despite
the state government's implementation of the said recommendation followed by
the subsequent issuance of letter of recognition to Amorka Development Union on
the 11th of September 2013, alleged also that the governor's aide who is the
incumbent special adviser on chieftaincy and town union matters sir Godfrey Muotolu
went ahead to recognize another parallel town union known as Amorka Improvement
Union.
The president-general of the ADU therefore noted
that the action of the SA on chieftaincy and town union matters prompted his
faction to seek intervention of the court and obtained an injunction to stop
the activities of any other parallel town union in Amorka community alleging
that the governor's aide again ignored the injunction and went ahead to conduct
an election in favour of a factional union.
The ADU however expressed optimism that the
state governor having benefited immensely from the rule of law will act in
accordance with the principles of justice and address the matter expediently.
When contacted on the issue for him to react to
all the accusations leveled against him by the Amorka Development Union, the
special adviser to the state governor on chieftancy and town union matters Sir
Godfrey Muotolu told the reporter off-record that he would not comment on the
crisis in Amorka community until he has enough documented evidence on the case.
Also the member who represents Ihiala 1 state constituency in the
Anambra state house of assembly Hon.Prince Chito Modestus Ohazulike Tokas told
the reporter in a telephone interview that Amorka is one of the communities in
his constituency and that he was aware of the dispute between the two parallel
town unions but had to withdraw from the matter when he realized that it was
still in court.
