No fewer than five (5) persons were
killed in Onitsha Anambra state yesterday when a truck collided with Commuter
bus.
Thirteen (13) others
sustained various degrees of injury in the ghastly accident involving a bus,
with the inscription, Psalm 121 express, and a company truck at Nkwelle-
Ezunaka, near Onitsha along the
ever -busy Onitsha/ Enugu
Express-way.
Eye
witness confirmed he saw five dead bodies being taken away to unknown hospital,
adding that the bus was coming from Onitsha
end of the dual carriage way while the truck was coming from Awka when they had
the collision.
The witness
blamed the accident on usage of one lane instead of the two carriage ways
sequel to the ongoing construction in the other lane.
State Commandant
Federal Road Safety Corps , (FRSC) Mr Hyginus Omeje through his Nteje Unit
Commander Mr. Sunday Joseph, confirmed
the accident but said only one person (man) died while others
with various degrees of injury
were rushed to Iyi-
Enu Hospital,
Ogidi.
FRSC Boss attributed the cause of the accident to
over speed by the bus driver that loaded to capacity adding, “only one lane is
being used so one needs not to
over speed in a single lane that is being used by road users to and fro.”
He advised drivers to always be
cautious of the environment in which they found themselves to help curtail road
accidents.
