Oyo State Police Command
on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, disclosed that it made a record
of an average of one rape case per day in the year 2013, making a total
of 365 rape cases as against 332 recorded in 2012.
Similarly, the command secured 1, 078 convictions of criminals
charged to court during the year under review and recovered a total of
198 stolen vehicles between June and December of the same year.
The state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Ndabawa made this
disclosure at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan while briefing
journalists on the activities of the Command in the outgone year.
As part of the scorecard
of the command for 2013 presented on behalf of Ndabawa by the Command’s
Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanafor, the Command said it
embraced intelligence led and proactive policing leading to the arrest
of 1098 bags of Indian Hemp in November 2013 worth N18m.
The CP said an action plan
had been mapped out to ensure the safety of lives and properties and
maintenance of law and order in the state in 2014, recalling
that constant raids of Criminal black spots, high visibility Policing
and other adopted crime prevention strategies helped significantly to
achieve crime reduction within Oyo State Command in 2013.
The Commissioner who said
the command arrested 122 Armed robbery suspects added that a total of
60,997 ammunitions were recovered.
Ndabawa further said that the state witnessed reduction in suicide recording 14 suicides in 2013 as against 17 recorded in 2012.
