Governor Peter Obi yesterday presented a brand new 18-seater
Bus to the Nigerian Legion, Anambra State Chapter and pledged improved welfare
to the Legion.
Speaking during the 2014 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and
Emblem Appeal Fund launching at the Conference Hall of the Government House,
the Governor said that the country and her citizens owed it as a duty to take
care of the aged, those that had retired in service, including the members of
the Armed Forces that sacrificed a lot for the country.
The Governor, who launched the emblem and called upon others
to support the appeal, promised to sustain all the welfare packages extended to
them in the past.
In his address, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion,
Anambra State chapter, Major Gabriel Enyibuaku (retd), said that they would
remain grateful to Gov. Peter Obi for his kindness to them. Part of his address
reads: “Our most important appreciation goes to our ever agile, ever generous,
humble, action Governor and grand patron of the Nigerian Legion, Anambra State,
Mr. Peter Obi, CON for giving us financial support.”
They thanked the governor for renaming the State University
after Dim Chukwuemeka Odumwgwu-Ojukwu and promised continued loyalty and
support for his Government.
While thanking the Governor for the
donation of a new bus to them, they appealed to him to allocate land to them
for agro-based projects and for the construction of Legion Centre in Awka, for
recreation of their family members and the general public.
