I Pity Chief Willie Obiano, Governor Elect Anambra state -----------Says Governor Peter Obi



                        
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state has said he is pitying his successor, Chief Willie Obiano who will on March 17 assume office as Anambra governor because Anambra people will blame him for everything that goes wrong in the state whether he is responsible or not.


Obi was speaking at inaugural retreat, of the Anambra state local government on Values and leadership organized for the newly elected chairmen, their deputy chairmen and councilors at the women development center Awka.

Obi
tasked Councilors elect in the 21 local government areas of the state to be team players with their Chairmen rather than scheming for their impeachment. 
 
He noted that for him he will take time to rest from the busy schedule of tending the state for eight long years after he hands over to Obiano, adding that Obiano will however be lucky that he (Obi) has done some job in the state and would have to start from somewhere.

"When I was sworn in as the governor in 2006, there was no where to start from. I asked them where the governor's office is and they said there was non, I asked them where I will live and govern and they said none. Even this place where you ate today was burnt down and to make natters worse there was no one to hand over to me." Obi said.

He called on the elected councillorship, vice chairmen and chairmen to ensure that they provide dividend of democracy to the people of their localities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice GU Ononiba congratulated Governor Obi on his resolve to conduct the election despite opposition, saying that that the seminar is designed to give the newly elected politicians focus on right values and service delivery.

He expressed satisfaction at the array of resource persons assembled by the governor to impact leadership acumen on the grass root politicians.

Delivering a paper titled; local government chairman as a gardener, Dr Okey Ikechukwu a motivational speaker urged the newly elected politicians to see their election as call to service and not one to Lord themselves over the people.

"How the people of your local governments will see government depends on what you do with the power bestowed on you. You must think about how you can leave a lasting legacy in your local government and not wealth acquisition."

Other speakers at the event include; Monsignor Jerome Madueke, Prof Benjamin Osisioma, Monsignor Obiorah Like and Prince Nnagozie Ochi who delivered different papers at the seminar.

A newly sworn in Councilor, Mr Jude Atupulazi who is also a journalist commended the governor for organizing such seminar, saying that he has been equipped for service to his people.
