Hundreds of snakes have been discovered in plastic bins it a "house of horrors" in California.
Authorities were called to the property owned by schoolteacher
William Buchman in Santa Ana after neighbours complained of the stench
coming from the house. They found over 400 pythons, with more than half of them dead, with the property infested with rats and mice, with more rodents in plastic storage tubs cannibalizing each other - a scene described by animal services supervisor as a "house of horrors".
Four of the five bedrooms of the property were packed with plastic bins containing snakes from floor to ceiling. Some of the bins contained the skeletons of snakes that died months ago, whislt other contained recently deceased or live animals.
Buchman told authorities he was involved in a snake-breeding enterprise.
