Federal High Court Abuja
this afternoon gave judgment in the ongoing leadership tussle between Maxi Okwu
who was elected on April 8, 2013 APGA Congress held at Women Development centre
Awka and Sir Victor Umeh ,the case dragged on through the elections but today
the court declared Maxi Okwu the leader of APGA.
What are the
implications on Obiano's Candidacy and the just conducted LG Council election!
Victor Umeh has filed a Notice of Appeal and Stay of Execution. The
Okwu-led executive had dragged Chief Umeh, Alhj Shinkafi and the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court in the suit No
FHC/ABJ/CS/563/2013 seeking their removal as the party's national chairman and
secretary respectively.
Okwu and his group
had maintained that the tenure of Umeh, Shinkafi and co "had
constitutionally expired long time ago.
Political watchers
say that with Maxi Okwu's victory in court moments ago, Obiano may have lost
out of Anambra Governorship. The candidate Dr Chike Obidigbo submitted by Maxi
Okwu is likely Anambra governor elect.
Meanwhile, the embattled National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance
(APGA), Chief Victor Umeh Wednesday said he and the party leadership
have given notice of appeal against Wednesday's ruling by an Abuja High
Court ousting his executive.
Umeh told newsmen in a telephone interview that apart from appealing
against the judgment, the party has also asked for stay of execution of
the court order until its appeal is considered. He said the ruling of the lower court on the APGA leadership tussle is an assault on the supremacy and authority of the Appeal court over the High Courts.
