Confusion In Peoples Club As Faction Drags Leadership To Court

Crisis has hit the  Igbo premier social  club, the  People’s Club of Nigeria, with one of the factions,  asking the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State to nullify the purported  election of the national leadership of the club  last December.

In  a motion on notice brought pursuant to order 26 of the Federal High Court , about 15 members of the club including Chief Basil Ofole, Dr. Fabian Eluma, Prof. Gordian Ndubuizu, Dr. Alloysius  Uchegbulam, Engr. Paul Ezeuka and others are asking the court to set aside the election held on Friday, December20, 2013.

They also requested the Court to set aside all the resolutions reached at the purported National Convention/Annual General Meeting of the Incorporated Trustees of People’s Club of Nigeria.

In the motion filed by Mr. Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN),  he argued that  the defendants /respondents’ purported summon , convene / or conduce of the AGM  as well as conducting  election into the NEC of the club, while there are still two pending motions before the court strikes at the root of administration of justice in Nigeria.

The legal luminary in suit No: FHC/Awk/CS/202/2013 argued that the action of the defendants also amounted to  “an affront on  the majesty of the court”.

He contended that the confidence and integrity of the court can only be preserved in this matter by peremptorily setting aside  the offending actions which have the capacity of preventing the court from assuming  jurisdiction in all aspects of the matter.

The Plaintiffs/Applicant in October 2013 had brought  an action against the defendants asking the Court  for an order to appoint the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) or its official authorized to do so, to take over the administration and management of the affairs of The Incorporated Trustees of People’s Club of Nigeria.

They also in the action  asked the Court  for an Order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the defendants/respondents from undertaking the control, administration, management of the  affairs club  including convening, summoning meetings, pending the determination of the subsisting suit, which they have now flouted.
