Anambra state House of
Assembly yesterday raised alarm on what it described as Tribal colouration in
the calling of the sack of the Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah over
the alleged certificate forgery and N255 Million bullet proof car purchase scandal.
The House Committee Chairman
on Information, Mr Paulinus Onyeka who briefed newsmen yesterday wondered why
the Lagos state House of Assembly should be asking Mr President to sack
Princess Oduah out rightly without following due process.
Oduah was alleged to
have forged her MBA and PHD certificates by online reports and the Lagos House
of Assembly called on President Jonathan to sack her coupled with her N255
Million bullet proof scandal.
He said the Anambra House
led by Princess Chinwe Nwebili was surprised
and shocked to see Lawmakers of Lagos
State House of Assembly coming with an unconstitutional approach in calling for
her sack.
Onyeka said, ‘’This
House has not risen in defense anybody yet but will do so once the fundamental
Human Rights of any person is threatened….. we are not here to defend Princess
Oduah but we are saying that she should be allowed to discharge the needful duties
of her office because,’ the legal system we operate has provided means of
handling the allegations she was charged with.
‘’Those calling for her
removal does not have enough reason and again the call is unconstitutional in approach.
We are not standing in for Oduah and shall not stand in for her’’.
The House spokesman said
the House decided to keep off from the Oduah gate to enable the law run its
course but regretted the position of the Lagos House of Assembly in the abuse
of rule of law.
He noted that
constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria exists to bring civility and standardize
issues to curtail abuse of rule of law, adding that in Oduah case presumption of innocence doctrine
should be sacrosanct until she is found guilty.
He maintained that for
now Oduah is a suspect and not accused as some people are trying to paint and lamented
the involvement of Lagos state House of Assembly.
‘’Why must Lagos state
House of Assembly that is a proponent of laws come up with such a call for the
sack of a Minister…that is jettisoning the same law they make ……that is why we
said that there is a tribal coloration for Lagos House of Assembly to make that
call for President to sack the Aviation Minister. How can such institution be
obeying the rule of man rather than the rule of law. The normal cause of law
should be allowed to take its course.
