At least 17 Pakistani students on their way home from a quiz competition were killed in a school van crash on Wednesday, a hospital official said.
Three teachers and the van driver also were killed when the van and a truck collided about 170 miles northeast of Karachi.
More than 10 students were being treated at a hospital in the city of Nawabshah. The youths attended the Bright Future Public School in the town of Daulatpur.
Meanwhile, there was confusion in Ikere Ekiti on Tuesday when a truck crushed an unidentified commercial motorcyclist to death.
Residents of the NITEL Office area of Ikere Ekiti where the accident happened were thrown into mourning.
The eyewitness said, “A small bus was parked on the side of the road. The motorcyclist was hit by the truck while trying to manoeuvre the vehicles.
“Blood gushed out of his nostrils and mouth. We thought he had died. Shortly after, he started gasping for breath and was rushed to a nearby private hospital in the town.”
He died shortly after being referred to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Victor Babayemi (ASP), who confirmed the accident attributed the death of the okada rider to recklessness.
The PPRO added that the driver of the truck and his assistant would have been mobbed by irate mob but for the prompt intervention of the police.
