Anambra CP assures of crime-free festive period

The new Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Usman Gwari, yesterday warned hoodlums and mischief makers to stay away from Anambra state during the festivities.

 Gwari re-assured the people of the state of the resolve his command to provide adequate security of lives and property, adding that so far security situations have been contained.

He spoke at end of year get-together of Nigeria Police Officers Mess, Anambra State Command held at Enugwu-Ukwu.

He appealed to the people to continue to support the police so as to enable them carry-out their duties effectively.

Gwari represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, D.C Yakadi, restated the commitment of the command to be more vigilant and proactive in its operations to guarantee safety of the citizenry, adding that the state police command was ready to partner various agencies, associations and unions in the task of effective policing of the state for a better society.

In an address, the State Chairman of Nigeria Police Officers Mess, Dr Jeff Okeke, said he was confident that the new police commissioner would discharge his duty with fear of God and continue from where his predecessor stopped.
He pointed out that the event was to appraise the performance of the State Command of the Officers Mess this out-going year, he also disclosed plans to meet with the State’s Governor –Elect ,Dr Willie Obiano, after being sworn-into office for a piece of land for their permanent site.

Dr Okeke, further said they would provide the much needed support services as well as encourage the Police to function optimally, adding that they have instituted various awards for the men of the police to motivate them in carrying out their duties.
He said’’ In this we mean that our 2014 Award Day will be fixed for us to honour some of the highly performed officers. We will have award for Best Constable, Best investigating officer of the year, Best DPO and Best crime control officer of the year’’.
